As an exotic plant enthusiast myself (mostly an orchid guy, but don't tell anyone), I found it difficult at first to get information regarding this exciting hobby. My Google searches mostly pointed me to sites on other continents or rather "incomplete" local sites. As a software developer, I then decided to take it upon myself to create this site by hand as most orchid/exotic plant groups and nurseries simply don't have the funds for a more detailed website. In turn, I have also designed it in such a way that you'll, in time and as the site gains momentum, have access to the various popular events and relative nurseries around the country.
While I'm at it, I would like you to understand that most of the advice given would either be from my own experience or well-known growers. Either way, it is only a guideline as we all have different environments in which we grow our orchids and our own opinions about the do’s and don'ts.
Right, so with all of that out of the way, go and explore my child. If you can't find what you are looking for, be sure to drop me a mail in our Contact Us section, and I'll try my best to add it in the future. I will however not respond to emails asking advice as I have a day job and with the little time I have left, I try and juggle this website and a life. As a solution, you are more than welcome to go and explore Orchid Growers South Africa's Facebook page and ask questions there. I have been a member of the group for quite some time and have asked a few questions in the past. The members are very friendly and helpful, in my opinion.
Lastly, thanks for visiting and feel free to by me coffee. Funding helps me cover running costs like licensing, hosting, and so on. It also makes me feel more appreciated and motivated in my quest to bring you, the user, the most informative and up to date information regarding your hobby! As an added bonus, coffee also makes me work harder and faster, so send some caffeine my way people! In return, you'll be helping yourself, and others receive regular updates and expansions to the website. If you are a nursery wanting to Advertise, by all means, contact me, and I'll reserve you a spot on the site.
